Edwin T. Williams diaries, 1858-1862 [microform]

The first diary, 1858, documents Williams' missionary service in Monrovia and includes an account of his January trip to Sierra Leone. The second diary, 1860, includes entries written in St. Augustine, Florida, and at "Burna Compra," the Couper Plantation on St. Simon's Island, Georgia. This diary also describes Williams' sojourn to New York, New England, and Canada in August through October 1860. Most entries in the third diary, 1862, were written in Savannah, Georgia.

Edwin Theodore Williams was born in 1826 in Savannah, Georgia. He graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1853. He served as a PCUSA missionary in Monrovia (Liberia) and Corisco until ill health forced him to return to the United States in July 1859. He served as stated supply in Bryan County, Georgia, in 1862, and as pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Quincy, Florida, from 1862 until his death in 1866. From the description of Edwin T.
